
In 1886 John Pemberton, a biochemist, pharmacist and civil war veteran, invented a medicinal beverage that his book keeper, Frank Robinson called ‘Coca-Cola’ due to its two main ingredients Coka leaves and Kola nuts.
Asa Griggs Candler purchased the drink’s, still secret, formula from Pemberton and on 29 January 1892 formed the Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta, GA.
In 2010 Coca-Cola became the first brand in the UK to top £1 billion in grocery sales. Today Coca-Cola employs 68,000 staff and its beverages are sold in more than 200 countries worldwide. In 2018 its revenues were $31.85 billion from daily sales of 50 billion servings consumed worldwide, of which ‘Coke’ accounted for 78%
