Project Manager and editor of a Good Practice Project Management Handbook for APM.
Background
The Association for Project Management (APM) is the UK’s principle Project Management Professional Organisation and is the largest member of the International Project Management Association (IPMA)
Objective
The purpose of the assignment was to assist APM in the publication of a book, detailing good practice guidance and learning, covering the (then) 42 areas of the “Body of Knowledge” (BoK). The BoK is considered the definitive scope of domain knowledge that all good project managers should have.
Solution
We managed and co-ordinated the work of a number of specialist Programme and Project Managers who were co-authoring the book.
The practice was responsible for:
- Defining topic briefs against which authors could write their chapters
- Implementing peer group review processes for topic briefs and submitted texts
- Designing page and cover layouts and preparing artwork
- Sub-editing the volume and co-ordinating arrangements for typesetting and print production. Distribution mechanisms were also established, before handing over to APM publications for implementation
Outcome
The initial print run sold out and the book has become a worldwide, academic best seller. It was translated into Chinese Mandarin under the sponsorship of the Government of the Peoples Republic of China
